Couldn’t come up with a fix for the slider so my mouse guts project is officially complete. Included are more pictures, and a crappy video of the device in action.

Mouse Guts: 99% Complete

My mouse guts project nearing completion. Supplies consisted of duct tape, a rubber band, a tourniquet, a shoe-box and, of course, the innards of a usb-compatible track-ball mouse. Construction took roughly 10 minutes. The original idea consisted of two rubber-bands—the rubber-band, and the tourniquet—both of which would loop around a 1-inch wooden dowel with the smaller rubber-band connected to the x-axis controller of the mouse.

The idea was that the tourniquet was to be the portion that the user would move with their finger, which would turn the dowel, and the x-axis controlling rubber-band. However, that idea hasn’t quite worked out. While the small rubber-band looped around the dowel has enough tension to turn both the dowel and the x-axis controller; I can’t seem to get enough tension on the tourniquet to transfer the motion. So, my backup idea is for the dowel to be the actual interface; sort of like a knob that the user would turn to browse through the gallery.

I haven’t given up completely on the slider idea. I’ll give it another try—I feel like there might be something that I’m overlooking :\

Processing: Sliding Image Gallery

An image gallery in Processing. I am currently in the process of working on the interface that goes with the gallery—unfortunately, I may have to rethink my current idea since it appears that I might not have all of the materials available for that particular idea.

Processing: Mouse Coords to Color

The second part of my Mouse Coordinates assignment was to reproduce my Flash project in Processing. I managed about 80% of the project since I couldn’t figure out how to make the square rotate. Might have helped if the Processing website wasn’t down =}

Update: October 29th
It is as finished as it’s going to be. The square rotation didn’t quite work out the way I would have liked it.

Mouse Coordinates to Colors

So what else can be done with mouse input other than move a cursor around? Well, colors for one. What I did here was use the X coordinates for green, the Y coordinates for red and a combination of both for blue.
